Established in 2004 to protect sensitive customer data, the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a mandatory requirement for leading credit card issuers, including Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover. In July 2009, new guidelines were issued that clarified the requirements to address wireless threats. The new requirements mandate that the merchant identify and remediate wireless threats in the Cardholder Data Environment (CDE) by regularly scanning the Wi-Fi spectrum at all locations, even if Wi-Fi is not deployed at the site. The Hughes PCI Wireless Scanning Service is a managed wireless scanning and reporting service that helps retailers rapidly and cost-effectively meet the new PCI requirements. An access point is installed at all locations that continuously monitors for wireless devices. Through local and centralized correlation techniques, unauthorized or rogue devices are automatically identified and blocked. Optionally, Hughes can dispatch a technician to the branch location for isolation and removal of the unauthorized device, as required by PCI guidelines.
Hughes encompasses all broadband solutions and managed services from Hughes, for large enterprises, governments, small businesses, and consumers bridging the best of satellite and terrestrial technologies. In support of retailers’ initiatives to be PCI compliant, Hughes can provide rapid deployment nationwide.

Rapid detection is achieved through continuous scanning of the Wi-Fi spectrum. Through extensive wired and wireless correlation techniques, rogue devices are detected while minimizing false positives. Alerts are sent to the enterprise help desk for remediation, while the system takes measures to automatically block the suspected rogue device.
Hughes can manage all aspects of the service: network deployment, configuration, network operations, and fault management.
