Leading managed network services and SD-WAN provider for retail to demonstrate how the right network powers the evolving customer and employee experience

Germantown, MD, January 9, 2020 – As retailers increasingly rely on connected technology to enhance the customer and employee experience, Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) ensures their networks are optimized to deliver a modern, high-tech shopping environment. At the National Retail Federation (NRF) show in New York next week, Hughes will demonstrate how its HughesON™ managed network services support new retail technologies, including frictionless checkout, digital media, augmented reality, analytics, and more.

“Tech is transforming the shopping experience for consumers and impacting employee performance in new ways,” said Dan Rasmussen, senior vice president of enterprise business, Hughes. “For a retailer to compete, their customers must have a seamless and timely experience – which requires high network availability and peak performance.”

To demonstrate the importance of the network in powering the modern retail environment, Hughes will feature trending retail technologies in its booth (#5837) at the NRF show at the Javits Center, January 12-14, including:

  • A hands-on demonstration of frictionless checkout using the Skip application, one of a variety of network solutions that Hughes provides to support enhanced convenience at the point-of-decision and point-of-sale.
  • Hughes MediaSignage™,  featuring cloud-based digital signage and menu boards, Breakroom TV and self-service kiosks, which make communication with employees and customers more relevant, engaging and impactful.
  • An augmented reality experience in which visitors can use a tablet to view items for sale along with enhanced reality details like in-depth product information, similar or complementary products, and more.
  • A tour of network analytics, which provides retailers with valuable insights on network performance and behavior. Visitors will receive an overview of network analytics capabilities and a live view of the Hughes analytics portal with real-time data.

“At NRF, we’re showing just a few of the many technologies that require an always-on, always available, secure network,” said Rasmussen. “Everything from robots, to loyalty rewards and virtual dressing rooms, to virtual reality employee training depends on the right network connection.”

As a leading managed services provider across a wide range of verticals, Hughes implements the most cost-effective mix of network technologies for any particular retailer environment, no matter if its for hundreds or thousands of locations. Leveraging robotic process automation, Hughes brings the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to network planning and operations, optimizing networks by specific location and filtering solutions by customer criteria.

“The ideal enterprise network uses a variety of best-of-breed available connections and technologies,” said Rasmussen. “Our HughesOn managed services combine the optimal mix of transport types and applications to ensure superior performance in all sites.”

The HughesON suite of managed solutions includes SD-WAN, Wi-Fi and location analytics, VoIP, security, and cloud-based digital signage and employee training, employing the proprietary HR4860 platform and partner platforms from Fortinet, Cisco Meraki and VeloCloud, tailored to meet retailers’ needs.
